In view of the increased vulnerability of seniors to misinformation and disinformation online, the project empowers participants with the skills needed to critically navigate today’s complex digital landscape. The Shifting the Media's Election Coverage project is a continuation of work done by Transitions in 2024 to take a different approach toward political coverage and audience engagement to better serve democracy. Respekt, a leading Czech news outlet, was selected and provided with training, mentorship, and a grant. The newsroom will learn to utilize solutions journalism and public engagement to inform its election reporting with the goal of reducing polarization and fostering more constructive civic engagement. This type of work is very important because of the increased distrust in the media that has affected voter turnout significantly and sown skepticism about the democratic process.

The PluPro Project is designed to enhance the impact and sustainability of cross-border investigative journalism across Europe. With a focus on smaller media outlets and independent teams often overlooked by larger funding initiatives, PluPro provides targeted financial support through a series of small- and mid-sized grants and hands-on training and mentoring.

SoJo Europe promotes and supports solutions-oriented journalism across Europe. The project supports media outlets and journalists in shifting from problem-saturated coverage to stories that also highlight responses, innovation, and resilience. By providing training, mentoring, and grant funding, SoJo Europe aims to strengthen public trust in journalism and encourage more constructive public dialogue in a time of widespread news avoidance, cynicism, and polarization.

Fact-checked is a Serbia-focused project that brings together journalists and civil society activists to counter disinformation and political propaganda. In a deeply polarized media environment, the project creates a collaborative space for training, knowledge exchange, and joint action, reinforcing fact-based journalism and civic advocacy. It equips participants with the tools to verify information and push back against misinformation campaigns that threaten democratic discourse.

This project aims to develop a comprehensive and durable solution to the disinformation crisis, particularly among senior citizens. Uniquely among other campaigns promoting media literacy among seniors, this project makes seniors active participants in real time fact-checking. This will allow them to critically engage with media they encounter, building a more well informed public.
